Today's scripture, "Consecrate yourself, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." Joshua 3:5.
I love how God speaks, now some people would say it's a coincident, but not so. On today I have read two different devotionals and each one specifically talked about consecration. If you are apart of the prayer team, you have received my email encouraging you to set aside some time to pray and fast while on this journey. Fasting and consecration are often used interchangeably, but as I have read today's reading I see more clearly the difference. The word consecration means "to set apart" as a Christian "to be completely dedicated to God". When I read "consecration is death to self...something on the inside said, you have a long way to go, but as I am rereading the Holy Spirit spoke to me, but you are on the right path. God is speaking, we need to have ears to hear, and when we are in a place of fasting, God's voice is so much clearer, when we worship and pray. Johnathan Edward's solemn dedication was indeed solemn, if I were to try to measure myself to his standards. The purpose of prayer and fasting and consecration is that we set aside the time to hear what God is requiring of each one of us individually. Today, Set aside some time for worship, then move into prayer and hear what the Lord is saying about your next step towards a more consecrated life.
Intercessory prayer is this evening at 6:30-7:30, hope to see you there.[/b]

Frequently, we think of fasting food as consecrating. Consecrating goes even deeper because we submit ourselves wholly. We begin to shed off sin, habits, life's junk. Consecrating allows us to focus in on God and to be able to hear in the spirit. Consecration is life-changing. We should not only want consecrating, but we need it.

You are right, they are different. There have been times when I fasted, but did not have any time for worship and loving on God and allowing Him to speak to my heart, no change was evident.
