"Wait for the gift my Father promised." Acts 1:4
We have been circling for a while now. We have seen God do wonderful things; but more than that, we have come nigh unto God. He is drawing us closer to Him, closer than we have ever been before. One result has been greater peace, a calm assurance that He is with us, and He is working things together for good. During this time we are reminded that waiting is a good thing. This is so contrary to our fast paced society. Even as I am sharing this I am reminded of doing s power walk. I start at a fast pace. I increase it. I am really pounding the street. I may even try to get into a sprint, when all of a sudden we have a day like yesterday. The temperature is perfect. The sky is so blue. The few clouds in the sky are like fluffy marshmallow figures. The sun is bright and gleaming. Then I look up and look out. I have to stop and take in all the beauty of His Presence and His creation. Truly the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and they that dwell in it. It's like a holy hush in the middle of the street. Even though cars may be passing me, even though other people may be going around me, I can be still and know that He is God.
Not Now is a time when our greatest efforts, our highest thoughts, or even our greatest schemes do not yield us the results that we are working so hard to accomplish. If we could achieve it in our own efforts there is no way we would not have it, have done it, or got it. We prayed about it. We put a lot of effort into it. But it did not happened the way we planned, We may have even felt crushed or disappointed because God did not do it the way we wanted Him to do it. Sometimes we just have to wait.
It may be that God is testing us. Is the gift or prize more important the the Gift Giver? Is the dream more to be desired than the Dream Giver? God's timeline is nothing like ours. Sometimes we have to mature in a variety of ways before we are grown enough to steward what we so dearly want from Him.
The question is: How long are you willing to wait? Many gathered in the Upper Room to wait for the promised gift. Only a few of the hundreds remained to receive the Gift. Their schedules were too full, the wait was too long, the cares outside of the room had their attention. Pray like it depends on God. Work like it depends on us. If we don't pray first, our work won't work.
"Sometimes God's no simply means not yet."
