Contend for me, my God and Lord. Psalm 35:23
Psalm 35 is a prayer that God gave to me. I did not even know that it was in the Bible. I never heard anyone pray or preach from it before God gave it to me. I was in the middle of a great battle. I even felt like David. There were so many adversaries. I came to realize I did not really know who who some of them were because I came to realize that some of my "friends" were actually allies with the other side. As I was praying God lead me to some of His prayers. Psalm 35 proved to be a linchpin in the midst of turmoil, stress, and anxiety. I knew that God was fighting for me. I knew that He was definitely directing this battle.
And in case some one is in an intense battle right now, He lead me to Psalm 16. " Preserve me, O Lord. . ." He is strong in battle, and strongest when we use His weapons of warfare. They are not carnal. They are mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds, the casting down of imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the power of God.
Contend is physical and verbal combat. It runs the gamut from cage fighting to courtrooms. The enemy fights dirty. His goal is to kill you--kill your family--kill your dreams, hopes, and destiny. For him it is whatever it takes. If we think about it most fights begin with word. Somebody said something about us, or Heaven forbid, our family. The fight is on. I like what the author of Draw the Circle said: I made a determination. . .wasn't going to defend myself against any and every criticism that comes my way. . .I'm going to play offense, not defense. . .He is contending for me if my cause is just and my heart is right. What a great strategy to keep peace in our homes.
This past week God has brought a lot of information to me about our Godly heritage as a nation. In this chapter the author includes a portion of the first official prayer that was prayed asking for God's help as the colonies stood before the Goliath of England. We are reminded that intercession took place. There were eyewitnesses and earwitnesses to this prayer. England, this giant of a nation, could not be defeated without the power of Almighty God released in/on its behalf. They prayed like it depended on God because it did.The Bible is full of impossible odds, of little people who come forth victorious.
Every where we turn there is the call to/for prayer. The movie, The War Room, conferences, groups, individuals all know that God is calling us to prayer. We are in a critical time is our history. God is calling soldiers to become warriors. The battle is the Lord's, but He need us to be engaged in the battle. Our prayers do not have an expiration date. Our heartfelt prayers are precious to God. He stores them up.
Prayer is the difference between you fighting for God and God fighting for you.
